“Not In Vain” – Pastor Ted Buck, January 24, 2010
Pastor Ted’s message on Sunday encouraged everyone to do more to build God’s Kingdom and that the work we do for God is never done in vain. The message centered around 1 Corinthians 15:58. Here is that verse in a number of versions:
“Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” (NIV)
“With all this going for us, my dear, dear friends, stand your ground. And don’t hold back. Throw yourselves into the work of the Master, confident that nothing you do for him is a waste of time or effort.” (The Message)
“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be firm (steadfast), immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord [always being superior, excelling, doing more than enough in the service of the Lord], knowing and being continually aware that your labor in the Lord is not futile [it is never wasted or to no purpose].” (Amplified Bible)
What this verse implies is that if you want to have significance in your life, do something for the Lord. There are lots of things we can do in this life that are not bad, they may be fun, but if you want to build significance, do something for the Lord. It will never be in vain, and never be wasted.
Here’s the full message. There are a few parts that cut out. Just wait a few seconds instead of cranking your speakers as it will come back on quickly.

No commentsWorship Central – Sunday, January 10, 2010 (#sundaysetlists)
We had a wonderful worship service last Sunday. We started the service with an awesome intro video that I had found online, but we’re still working the kinks out of our brand new system, so I wanted to post it here for you to watch:
INTRO TO WORSHIP VIDEO from The Church at Chapel Hill on Vimeo.
Because the video did such a great job setting the tone for worship, we started with some more of our newer and slower songs. The first song was “Open Up The Sky” by Deluge, a group that also wrote “Worshiping You,” which we recorded for our debut album. This has quickly becoming one of my favorite modern worship songs because of the bridge, which says “Here we go, let’s go to the cross / The place where we belong / Right into His arms.” It’s such a powerful bridge and serves well as a call to worship.
We followed that by Hillsong United’s “Lead Me To The Cross,” originally recorded in 2007 for their All Of The Above album. This was a very popular song this past year, recorded by Newsboys and Seventh Day Slumber and new group, Chris & Conrad, even made it a CHR radio hit.
Our third song was Chris Tomlin’s “I Will Rise,” holding special meaning again for me personally as my grandmother passed away after almost a decade of battling dementia. It’s always comforting to sing about heaven and it helps keep my eyes on my future with Christ. “I will rise, when He calls my name / No more sorrow, no more pain / I will rise, on eagle’s wings / Before my God, fall on my knees / And rise”
Our final two songs were “Let It Rain,” an incredibly powerful chorus that the youth team introduced a few months ago. The only group that we know of that recorded the verse the way we do it is Pocket Full Of Rocks, on their album Song To The King, but many artists have done the chorus. If we ever record an album again, this one will be at the top of my list.
Finally, we closed by picking up the pace with Big Daddy Weave’s “Let It Rise.” This has always been one of my favorite songs by this group but they do it a lot slower. I love the faster tempo we sing this in and it was a really fun and different way to close our worship.
I was able to record this week’s service, which you can watch below. This is only my second time recording, so I’m still not happy with the sound. I’ll have to keep playing with putting the camera in a few more spots, but it’s still fun to listen to. Enjoy!
